brandon morgan is a trained painter who works the huge (and incredibly detailed!) metal letterpress machine. he can design and print, use pre-existing ideas/concepts/artwork, or combine both – as shown above. the heart was artwork from a friend of the couple, but the remaining design was all brandon.

no two ways about it — regardless of the size of your event, your budget, or the fact that you and your mom are BFF‘s — planning is stressful.

this is my worry hat, that my husband bought for me many years ago in seattle. it doesn’t cover my ears, it is kind of itchy and it looks ridiculous. but you know what? i love it and it’s comforting.

take some time today to comfort yourself. give yourself and your partner some space from planning. then make a game plan. if you need help or get stuck, call me and we’ll talk it out.

today i’m dreaming about an amazing winter party. my idea of the perfect party would be a total white-out! part hoth echo base, part 60s mod bond ice palace.

it will take place in an enormous igloo made of ice! at least 17 feet tall, and 10,000 sq feet of party space. there would be white tents out back for food prep. i’d like to have the igloo set up someplace urban, so it’s a little haven in all the hubbub of the city.

everyone will be looking cool in white-on-white jackets. every guest will receive one upon entering the igloo foyer.

except for me- i will be in silver!

there would be tall white modern tables and clear chairs as far as the eye can see.

and white fur throws on chaise lounges! [fake of course]

ice bar!

ice blocks with backlighting will make up the dj stand at the head of the dance floor!

there will be some light fog and some music and a white dance floor. and a big ol’ disco ball to make everything twinkle! also white/blue diamond/ice blue uplighting around the igloo to make it really glow.

it would have great atmosphere, eclectic guests and be a one-time experience: something that is transient and cannot be duplicated.

some of my favorite elements were: ring warming, ceremonial drinking of groom-brewed beer from a common mug, cranes made and mailed by guests as part of the rsvp, amazing donuts and coffee after dinner, taffeta linens, board games and led bocce on the lawn.

we are thrilled to be helping with nashville’s geek prom!

the fun starts at 7pm on july 29th at red rooster on demonbreun. 80s cover band bueller will be providing live entertainment for most of the evening.cost will be $10/ per geek. pre-purchase tickets here!

costumes, formal attire and/or formal costumes are strongly encouraged! all genres of geeks are welcome. there will be a costume contest and crowning of the prom king and prom queen! you can win swag from our awesome sponsors including griffin technology, delinquent debutantes and other special guests! boozy awkward fun will abound!

geek prom does have a heart- ALL proceeds will go to one nashville, a pipeline for funding metro nashville schools with necessities such as library books, art supplies and computer literacy.

recently one of these beauts (specifically, the one in the middle) fell into my lap.  it’s neon green, shiny, about two feet tall and weighs about 3 pounds. the ends are flat so it can stand on one end.

couldn’t stand to see it thrown away- it has so much potential!

a few of my ideas:

- securely attach a proportional dish to one end, stand on the opposite end- adds height, color and a unique item to a dessert table. it’s heavy enough to hold candy + a scoop!

- the round shape reminds me of the tube at the center of an aisle runner. maybe for a geek wedding, with formulas rolling out?

- long table centerpiece- again with the geek theme, it could be used as a platform or base for other items placed around and on top.

- the color is wild- could be used as a prop in a paintball engagement shoot or a digital-meets-analog shoot.

i’m not sure how sturdy it is- we could do even more if we could drill holes in it, hang it, put lighting or flowers in it…

i’ve been chatting with some folks on twitter about upcoming ink sessions, and i’m excited to see what comes of it all. it made me think about group tattoos- wedding rings, couple tattoos, family tattoos.

cupcakes are symbolic for happy and sweet life together, right?

really great looking lock + key. i especially like the key detail.

entertainment can make or break your event. it determines the mood, what fun is to be had and how long people will stay and party!

we strongly recommend thoroughly researching the people you hire to entertain your guests.

my personal favorite, who i want to see at every party in nashville, is koo koo kanga roo. a two-man hip hop group from minnesota, bryan and neil are so genuine and hysterical. they can get an entire room of hipsters to dance an interact during their performances! you should check out their silly, catchy tunes here – and after deciding you need more of them in your life- help them towards a new tour van here!

outside of dancing, some reception options that our clients have been asking for are:

- board games: we wrap them in wrapping paper, wallpaper or butcher paper and make labels to keep themes and branding consistent

- outdoor games: croquet, bocce and bean bag toss for kids young and old

- photobooth: whether homemade or rented, fun props make this a crowd favorite!

- interactive guest book: create your own with an adjustable scrapbook and then add as many plain or colorful pages as you want. provide your guests with different crafty mediums such as crayons, colored pencils, glitter/confetti, fabric, glue, scissors and more so they can leave you a fun note! you can prompt guests with questions on each page or let them have creative freedom.

- make your own: another interactive activity, we’ve seen guests make their own photobook from wedding day images, mix a cd/playlist to keep and potted plants to take home.
